Therapy in Toronto & Across Ontario

About Me

My name is Allison Ference (CRPO #20384), and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with training in Psychodynamic, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) and Somatic Therapy Foundations.

Therapeutic Style

I offer integrative, trauma‑informed therapy rather than a one‑size‑fits‑all approach. My work is grounded primarily in relational psychodynamic therapy, somatic therapy, emotion-focused therapy (EFT), and person-centred therapy, with additional mindfulness‑based approaches when helpful. Together, we find what best supports you, your nervous system, and your goals.

• (Relational) Psychodynamic Therapy – We explore how early relationships and past experiences shaped your current patterns, like people‑pleasing, self‑criticism, or fear of abandonment, so you can have more choice now.

• Somatic Therapy – We include your body and nervous system, noticing sensations such as tightness, numbness, or collapse and using regulation tools to support more safety and groundedness, especially around trauma and abuse.

• Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) – I help partners understand and shift their negative cycles (pursue/withdraw, criticize/shut down) and attachment patterns to create safer, more connected bonds.

• Person‑centred Therapy – We pay attention to what happens between us in therapy and use our relationship as a safe place to practice new ways of being, with curiosity and respect rather than judgment.

• Mindfulness‑based Therapy – We gently build your capacity to notice thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations with more awareness and less judgment, helping you respond rather than react and deepen your connection with yourself.

I work under the supervision of Ahmed El-Sadig (CRPO #12564) for individual work, and Sarah Hyndman (CRPO #006668) for couples and family work.

I work with adults, teens, couples and families of all genders, identities, and backgrounds. I’m LGBTQIA+‑affirming, culturally sensitive, and sex‑ and kink‑allied. All identities, bodies, and relationship styles (including monogamous, non‑monogamous, polyamorous, and open) are welcome here.

A note from me...

I know some of the clinical jargon I used above, like psychodynamic and somatic therapy, might not mean much yet, or might even feel a bit overwhelming. So instead, I want to tell you how I begin the work with everyone I meet.

Therapy for me begins with deeply getting to know you: who you are, how you see the world, and how the world has shaped you. I am passionate about exploring your individuality - your inner life and the systems that surround it: family, relationships, culture, work, community, and society. Being human is complex, and every part of your story matters. I want to feel what it feels like to live in your world.

I’m not here to judge you - my brain honestly doesn’t work that way. Curiosity is my most natural state. I see our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours not as “good” or “bad,” but simply as information about what we’ve lived through and how we’ve adapted. I’ve been a client myself, and I know how vulnerable it can feel to open your inner world to someone new. When I say that I care deeply about the people I work with, I mean that fully - it’s not something I have to put on.

In our work together, I welcome radical honesty. You don’t have to edit yourself or worry about what’s “too much.” If you’ve had the thought or felt the feeling, chances are, someone else has too. Honesty excites me because it helps me understand you more clearly and support you more fully, which is always my first goal. I’ll gently challenge you when it’s helpful, but my primary role is to be here with you.

This space is warm, safe, and non‑judgmental. Diversity is embraced and celebrated; I strive to create an affirming environment for people of all identities, backgrounds, and experiences. However you show up, you are welcome here, fully and without condition. Whatever brings you here, I will hold your story with care, deep respect, and an awareness of the privilege it is to know you.

In therapy, connection is the foundation of everything we do. Together, we may explore your feelings, your body’s wisdom, and the stories that have shaped you - the inherited narratives, the patterns you’ve adapted, and the relationships that mirror where you’ve been. This exploration helps open up space for more intentional, connected, and liberated ways of being.

I tailor our work to what best supports you, because you are not a set of symptoms; you are a full, complex human being. I believe you are inherently good, capable of growth, and deserving of a life that feels full and alive. I may not have lived your exact experiences, but I will listen. I will advocate for you. I will protect your story, and when you need it most, I will help carry some of the weight.

Whether you choose to work with me or someone else, engaging in this kind of work is a profound gift to yourself. How lucky we are to get to do that together.

- Allison

Beyond talk therapy...

At Happy Home, you have the option to go beyond traditional talk‑ and body‑based somatic therapy by incorporating light, skills‑based boxing or expressive movement and dance into your in-person therapy sessions as additional pathways for connection and release. These practices invite you to engage with your body, move through accumulated stress, and build confidence in ways that feel alive and empowering.

This approach is always entirely optional, collaborative, and tailored to your comfort level. Physical and emotional safety are the absolute priorities, and we will always move at a pace that feels grounded, respectful, and right for you.
